Online Psychiatric Evaluation in Florida
Santana Mental Health Services provides online psychiatric evaluations for eligible patients located in Florida. A virtual psychiatric evaluation allows you to meet with a psychiatric provider through a secure video appointment to discuss symptoms, history, concerns, goals, and possible treatment options.
Online psychiatric evaluations may be appropriate for children, teens, and adults seeking help with ADHD, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, insomnia, substance use concerns, autism-related concerns, mood changes, or complex diagnostic questions. The goal is to understand what is happening and create a clear, practical treatment plan.
What is an online psychiatric evaluation?
An online psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive mental health assessment completed through secure telehealth. Your provider may review your current symptoms, mental health history, medical history, medications, family history, sleep, appetite, substance use, school or work functioning, safety concerns, prior treatment, and treatment goals.
The evaluation may help clarify whether symptoms are related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma, OCD, substance use, psychosis, sleep disruption, medical factors, or overlapping conditions. Many patients come in with one concern and discover that several factors are contributing to how they feel.
What happens after the evaluation?
After the evaluation, your provider may recommend medication management, therapy, additional records review, lab work, coordination with another clinician, school or work documentation when clinically appropriate, or a higher level of care if needed. Some patients may be scheduled for follow-up medication management. Others may be referred to therapy or another type of support.
Not every patient needs medication. A psychiatric evaluation is about understanding the full clinical picture and choosing a plan that fits the patient’s symptoms, preferences, risks, strengths, and daily life.
Who may benefit from an online evaluation?
An online psychiatric evaluation may be helpful if you are experiencing persistent symptoms that interfere with school, work, relationships, parenting, sleep, concentration, mood, or daily functioning. It may also be helpful if you have tried therapy or medication before and need diagnostic clarification or a second look at the treatment plan.
Parents may seek online evaluations for children or teens struggling with focus, anxiety, mood, irritability, school avoidance, emotional regulation, sleep issues, or behavioral concerns. Adults may seek help for burnout, depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma symptoms, panic, mood swings, insomnia, or substance use concerns.
When online evaluation may not be appropriate
Telehealth is not appropriate for every situation. In-person care, emergency evaluation, or a higher level of care may be needed if there are active safety concerns, severe confusion, intoxication, withdrawal, severe agitation, medical instability, or symptoms requiring immediate evaluation.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
Preparing for your appointment
Before your online psychiatric evaluation, choose a private, quiet place where you can speak openly. Have your medication list, pharmacy information, insurance details, and any relevant prior records available if possible. For minors, a parent or legal guardian is typically involved in consent, history, and treatment planning.
Patients should not join telehealth appointments while driving or from public spaces where privacy cannot be maintained.
